This is really good. I would add John 21:7 when Peter throws himself into the sea as another instance in this pattern of baptismal water transformation. Yay, Andy! This was beautiful! Amy Carmichael used to say, "See in it a chance to die" for this same reason. I finished a book about Bonhoffer recently and wept at the end. Did you ever read his dream Jesus gave him? Here he was ,still fraught with doubts, and Jesus shows him his "death", as he walks into the water, goes down down down, yet ist is really up, and above him, upon the water walking, is Jesus reaching to pull him out to himself at last! Bonhoffer's peace was incredible after that!
